Cat vaccinations
We have been helping vaccinate cats across Holbeach, Wisbech, Spalding, Moulton, Long Sutton, surrounding villages and further for over 20 years.
Why do I need to vaccinate my cat?
Vaccines are designed to help protect against some serious and potentially deadly infectious diseases. The vaccines boost your cats immune system and help protect them from these diseases. By vaccinating your cat, you don’t just protect your pet, but you are helping stop the spread of diseases to the wider population.
My cat will be indoors only do I still need to vaccinate them?
Even if your cat is kept indoors and has no contact with any other cats or animals, you still need the core vaccinations. The reason is the some of the diseases the vaccines protect against can survive outside of an infected cat for some time and humans can be bring these diseases in unknowingly into the home.
Our core vaccinations help protect against:
-
Cat Flu (Feline calicivirus (FCV) and Feline herpes (FHV)
-
Feline Infectious Enteritis (Feline panleucopaenia virus ) (symptoms include vomiting and diarrhoea, high risk of being fatal)
If you have an outdoor cat (or you are introducing another cat to your indoor cat) then they should also be vaccinated for the following:
-
Feline Leukaemia (FeLV) (typically spread through some contact with another cat ie grooming, bite wounds etc, the disease attacks the cats immune system)
The vaccine for FeLV can be administered at the same time as the core trio vaccine. As cats have been known to escape and get outdoors, some clients will vaccinate for both anyway as indoor cats are really at risk if they do get out.
What happens when I get my cat vaccinated?
Providing you cat has previously been vaccinated and their vaccines are due (they need vaccinating annually), then they will only need a single visit to get their booster vaccines. They will see a vet who will perform a health check up and inject your cat with the vaccine.
What if I miss the booster due date?
If you have missed your booster due date contact us to see if they can still receive the booster. If you are really late ie a few months then the cat may have to restart their course of vaccinations, and be vaccinated twice, a few weeks apart. The second vaccination could be carried out by a nurse.
*It is always best to make sure if boarding or travelling abroad you make sure you know which vaccines you are required to vaccinate your cat with.
Core vaccines included in our Cat Care Plans
Our Cat Care Plan (click here) include both sets of core vaccinations for Cats. One of the benefits of the plan is it helps spread the cost of preventative care as a monthly payment, spread throughout the year.
