Kitten vaccinations

We have been helping vaccinate kittens across Holbeach, Spalding, Moulton, Wisbech, Long Sutton, surrounding villages and further afield for over 2 decades.

Why do I need to vaccinate my kitten?

Vaccines are designed to help protect against some serious and potentially deadly infectious diseases.  The vaccines boost your cats immune system and help protect them from these diseases.  By vaccinating your kitten, you don’t just protect your pet, but you are helping stop the spread of diseases to the wider population.

What vaccinations do Kittens need and when?Your kittens will need a full course of core vaccinations, typically the first vaccinations is done at 8-9 weeks old by a veterinary surgeon who carries out a full health check, and then the second set of vaccinations is done a few weeks later by a veterinary nurse to make sure they are fully vaccinated.

After the second set of vaccinations, you will only need to vaccinate your cat once a year afterwards with booster vaccines.

Please be aware if you bought your kitten from a breeder, they may have already had the first set of vaccinations administered, if so please make sure you have the paperwork for this (ie a vaccination card) as it will be needed for the second set of vaccinations.

My Kitten/cat will be indoors only do I still need to vaccinate them?

Even if your cat is kept indoors and has no contact with any other cats or animals, you still need the core vaccinations.  The reason is the some of the diseases the vaccines protect against can survive outside of an infected cat for some time and humans can be bring these diseases in unknowingly into the home.

Our core vaccinations help protect against:

  • Cat Flu (Feline calicivirus (FCV) and Feline herpes (FHV)

  • Feline Infectious Enteritis (Feline panleucopaenia virus ) (symptoms include vomiting and diarrhoea, high risk of being fatal)

If you have an outdoor cat (or you are introducing another cat to your indoor cat) then they should also be vaccinated for the following:

  • Feline Leukaemia (FeLV) (typically spread through some contact with another cat ie grooming, bite wounds etc, the disease attacks the cats immune system)

The vaccine for FeLV can be administered at the same time as the core vaccine.  As cats have been known to escape and get outdoors, some clients will vaccinate for both anyway as indoor cats are really at risk if they do get out.

*It is always best to make sure if boarding or travelling abroad you make sure you know which vaccines you are required to vaccinate your cat with.

Core vaccines included in our Cat Care Plans

Our Cat Care Plan (click here)  include both sets of core vaccinations for kittens. One of the  benefits of the plan is it helps spread the cost of preventative care as a monthly payment, spread throughout the year.
