Puppy Vaccinations
Clients have been coming to Holbeach & Fleet Veterinary clinic from Holbeach, Wisbech, Spalding, Moulton, Long Sutton, surrounding villages and even further afield for over the past 2 decades for their puppy vaccines.
What vaccinations do puppies need?
Puppies will need a full course of core vaccinations, typically the first vaccinations is done at 8 weeks old by a veterinary surgeon who carries out a full health check, and then the second set of vaccinations is done a few weeks by a veterinary nurse to make sure they are fully vaccinated. Please be aware if you bought from a breeder, they may have already had the first set of vaccinations administered to your puppy, if so please make sure you have the paperwork for this (usually a vaccination card) as it will be needed for the second set of vaccinations.
After this, a booster vaccination is done annually by a veterinary surgeon who also carries out their annual health check.
Our core vaccinations help protect against:
-
Canine Distemper (viral disease affect lungs, brain, gut)
-
Hapatitis (liver affected and could cause sudden death)
-
Parvovirus (contagious virus causing diarrhoea, vomiting and sometimes fatal)
-
Leptospirosis (typically water contaminated by rat urine, could result in kidney/liver failure)
Additional vaccines:
Kennel cough (usually required by boarding, day care and other facilities)
Rabies (required when travelling abroad)
**It is always best to make sure if boarding or travelling abroad you make sure you know which vaccines you are required to vaccinate your dog with.
