Rabbit vaccinations

We have been providing clients with rabbit vaccines across Holbeach, Wisbech, Spalding, Long Sutton, Sutton Bridge, surrounding villages and further for over 20 years.

Why should I vaccinate my rabbit?

There are a number of very infectious dangerous diseases that can cause a lot of suffering and some of these diseases are often fatal.  Vaccines help  protect against these diseases.

My rabbit is indoors do they still need to be vaccinated?

Indoor rabbits can still contract these diseases, as these diseases can enter the home via a number of routes which includes objects brought into the home, people just walking in the home, can be found on their hay, and even flying insects can bring the diseases into your home.

When can rabbits be vaccinated?

The earliest age is 5-7 weeks old.

If unvaccinated, your rabbit will need a primary course of vaccinations.  During the appointment the vet will carry out a health check and then vaccinate your rabbit.

Once they have been fully vaccinated then a booster is required annually with a vet health check.

What do the vaccines protect against?

Our vaccines will help protect against:

  • Myxomatosis (spread through insects, rabbit to rabbit and environmental contamination, often fatal)

  • Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease 1 RHD1 (serious disease, high fever internal bleeding and liver disease, very fatal)

  • Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease 2 RHD2

What if I miss my booster due date?

If you missed your booster due date, then the booster may still be fine to administer, but it depends on how overdue the  booster is.  If it very late then you may have to have another initial course, please contact us so our vets can determine what vaccinations you need.

*Boarders will require you to vaccinate your rabbits, please make sure you are aware of which vaccines they require.
