What is neutering?

Neutering is where a animal’s reproductive organs are removed, usually for the purpose of stopping any unplanned pregnancies from occurring.  Once carried out the procedure is irreversible. When a male is neutered, this is called a castration whereby his testicles are removed.  Where a female is neutered, the traditional procedure is called a spay whereby the ovaries and womb are removed.  Both procedures require the animal to be put under general anaesthetic.
